London's monthly short film screening and Q&A night, held on the last Tuesday of the month at the Genesis Cinema in Whitechapel...

A film screening night with a difference, S4 looks at one short film each month. Over the course of the night, a series of events will look at the life cycle of the short's production, from the page to production and post, right through to a screening of the finished film. Guests include writers, directors, producers, crew and more!!!  FREE ENTRY.

Hi all,

So sure, it's summer, you want ice in your cidre & the sunshine in your eyes... BUT if you come to the next S4 at the Genesis you can have ice in your cidre and a fabulous short film in your eyes PLUS a fabulous Q&A in your ears.  And it's all for free (except the cidre)...

Kicking off at our usual time of 7pm, this month we are showing "This Is Vanity" and welcoming writer/director Oliver Goodrum to talk about the making of this affecting, majestic morality tale.  We're sure to confirm members of the crew to join for the Q&A, so do check our Facebook and Twitter over the coming fortnight for more details...

SYNOPSIS "This Is Vanity" is the dark and tragic tale of a tiring mother who struggles to protect both herself and her disabled teenage daughter from the continual attacks of local adolescents. Repeatedly rebuffed and frustrated by the authorities, she ultimately turns to a far greater power than can be found on her failing human plane.

DATE Tuesday 27th August, 7pm
LOCATION The Genesis Cinema
ADDRESS 93-95 Mile End Road, Whitechapel, London E1 4UJ [http://www.genesiscinema.co.uk].

The Genesis Cinema's Bar Paragon offers a great range of drinks and cocktails.  You can also line your stomach with their Pie Minister meal deal, getting a pie, mash, peas, gravy and a drink for £10.  The cinema is located slap-bang between Whitechapel station (District, Hammersmith & City and Overground lines) and Stepney Green (District and H&C lines), on the 25 and the 205 bus routes or has a cycle hire docking station station right outside.  Jump onto our blog to check out the lowdown about last month's screening of comic thriller "Cleaning Up" here.

As always, entry to S4 is FREE, so collect your tickets from the cinema's box office and install yourself upstairs in Bar Paragon for the screening to start promptly at 7pm with the Q&As kicking off straight after for a 9pm finish.  Happily the bar stays open until 11pm for extra filmic chinwagging...

Our filmmakers guests kindly give their time for free and the Genesis host our screenings without charge, so S4 is free for you.  So in lieu of a ticket price, every month we hold a charity collection for the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund, who do great work supporting new talent and industry veterans alike.  Find out more details about them at http://www.ctbf.co.uk and please do give as generously as you can...!

In the meantime, do head to http://www.facebook.com/s4london and http://twitter.com/s4london to keep in touch about upcoming events.  If you've seen a film you'd like to be given the S4 treatment, please don't hesitate to forward suggestions to me.

Thanks all, and see you in the front row!

Ste.
